The Reverse Diabetes Diet That Has Been Proven to Work

January 12th, 2010

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Physicians and dieticians teach their patients with diabetes to properly monitor their blood sugar levels, to take the right amount of insulin, and above all, to maintain a proper diet.

Proper diet partnered with medication has been the prevailing wisdom when it comes to controlling the disease of diabetes. However, recent studies have shown that with diet alone it may be possible for patients to not only maintain their healthy glucose levels, but to actually reverse their diabetic condition, without medication.

Renata Nyleve Editor of the “How To Reverse Diabetes” website — http://www.HowToReverseDiabetes.org — pointed out;

“…One example of this type of reverse diabetes meal plan centers around eating a low-fat, high-fiber diet. One study of this type of diet, out of UCLA, showed that after three-weeks of adhering to this plan, fifty percent of participants were no longer classified as diabetic. The diet is based on percentages, with the lowest percent of calories coming from fat, twenty to thirty percent from protein, and the highest caloric intake from high-fiber carbohydrates. At the conclusion of this study, the majority of the participants no longer tested positive for metabolic syndrome…”

A similar diet based plan for diabetes reversal takes the low-fat model to a higher level by focusing on the vegan diet. In this plan, diabetics are encouraged to cut out all animal proteins, and animal-based proteins, including cheese, eggs, and animal fats. This diet is based on cultures in which the consumption of animal fats is relatively low, and in which diabetes is almost non-existent.

“…Studies have indicated that when patients follow a more plant-based diet their bodies become more sensitive to the insulin being produced, whereas a fatty diet can cause the body to be more resistant the insulin. All protein in this diet plan comes from plant-based products. To guide diabetics following this plan it is necessary to learn the new food groups, as designated by this diet: grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits. Participants in a twelve-week trial of the low-fat vegan diet showed a marked decrease in glucose concentration when compared to the control group…” added R. Nyleve.

Fastest way to lose weight: Dietary Modifications That Really Works

November 6th, 2009

Want to know the fastest way to lose weight? I am sure you would like to lose weight but the big question is:” How do we lose it rapidly” and “Is it safe for me to do so?” Today this article will help you to maintain an ideal weight safely and permanently through proper dietary modifications. Diet is the foundation of the treatment of obesity. Hence the ideal diet is one which is low in calories and fat content, provides a variety, contains all the essential nutrients and is simple to follow for long time.

Loose Weight with Fat Loss 4 Idiots

Dietary Modifications:

Protein- You should take slightly higher than normal protein as it gives a feeling of satiety and also helps to maintain a good nutritional status. You should include good quality protein in the form of low fat milk, lean meats and whole pulses.

Fat- Emphasis should be laid on the use of unsaturated fats so as to reduce the risk of heart problems. Fried foods and high fat foods like processed cheese, butter, chocolates, fatty meats, ice creams and salad dressings should be restricted or avoided.

Carbohydrates- These should be mainly in complex form like dietary fibers and starches. Simple carbohydrate forms like sugar should be restricted. Dietary fiber or the indigestible carbohydrate is important to provide bulk and satiety. Stay away from high carbohydrate foods such as cakes, breads, cookies, honey, potatoes, dried fruits, syrups and jams.

Vitamins and minerals- Reducing diet should provide sufficient amounts of essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals to maintain a good nutritional status. Fruits and vegetables thus should be adequately included in the meals as they are also low in energy and provide roughage which helps to relieve constipation.

Fiber- Eating high fiber diet is the fastest way to lose weight. High fiber foods are significant in weight loss as well as for your overall health. Additionally, high fiber foods are typically low in filling and calories, so you can reduce your calorie intake overall. The rich sources of fiber are processed cereals like rice, wheat, maize and ragi; legumes like millets, beans, vegetables like turnips, carrots, leafy vegetables and fruits. Leaving the skins on fruits and vegetables will also increase your fiber intake.

The above dietary modifications are considered to be the fastest way to lose weight. Don’t forget that your weight lose journey starts and ends with you taking action and setting yourself some goals. So for it!

Now Pay Close Attention Here- Are you looking for some definite ways to burn fat? This is the right time to take action as it is matter of your own health? High Fiber Diet: The Cleansing and Weight Loss Benefits it Offers

September 11th, 2009

Fiber is known for being a great health food choice and it is easy to see why. It plays a major role in the prevention of disease and in healthy weight management. Just as important, it also supports the natural cleansing and detoxification processes of the body. According to many experts, one should eat between 25-35 grams or even more of fiber daily to maintain good health. Because of the role fiber plays in keeping you healthy, it is important that you find out more about it and how it does its beneficial work in your body.

There are two types of fibers-soluble and insoluble. Both types aid in getting rid of toxic substances from the body. As the name implies, soluble fiber which is found in oats, legumes, fruit, beans and nuts, dissolves in water. When it moves through the intestines, soluble fiber draws up the toxins to itself and traps them. When this happens the toxins can no longer be reabsorbed into the bloodstream.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water, this means that it goes through the digestive tract practically intact. As it passes through the intestines, it cleanses the colon by “sweeping” away the toxins that have accumulated in the intestinal wall. This is the reason why fiber has also been referred to as “nature’s broom”.

Another important function of insoluble fiber is to tone the bowel muscles. Fiber creates resistance and the bowel muscles get a good workout by pushing against it. This generates wave-like motions that transport food through the intestines known as peristalsis which is necessary for healthy elimination which in turn is important in flushing out toxic matter from the body.

You may be wondering how all those toxins are able to enter your body in the first place. There are actually two types of toxins-external and internal. External toxins come in the form of pesticides and pollutants from the environment. These substances seep into the earth, water and air and can cause serious health problems. Internal toxins, on the other hand, are formed within the body. These are the by-products of physiological processes that take place everyday like digestion and energy production. When people are unable to digest fats, protein and starches efficiently, what results is an overproduction of internal toxins.

Both external and internal toxins are absorbed by the body and circulate through the system on their way to the liver. As these substances travel within your body, some get deposited in the organs and tissues and this can result in inflammation which can lead to poor health.

Fiber is a powerful weapon that eliminates the toxins in your body by absorbing them from your liver and gallbladder to the gut. For this reason, it is essential that you include a lot of it in your diet. The ideal ratio is 65% insoluble fiber to 35% soluble fiber which is similar to the natural balance found in whole foods. To create a balance, you should eat different types of foods which are rich in fiber. Legumes and unrefined grains such as oats, whole wheat and rice are rich in mixed fibers. Apples, bananas, grapefruit and berries are among the most fiber-rich fruits, and for vegetables it’s spinach, endive, cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots.

What I Learned From Reading “Get Healthy Now!”

August 6th, 2009

Get Healthy Now! with Gary Null: A Complete Guide to Prevention, Treatment and Healthy Living is a another health and wellness tome from Gary Null. The author has written about 50 books and has created a business empire out of “holistic health” with his line of supplements, vitamins, books, and other products.

With the glut of weight loss products in the market from pills to gadgets, books to online diet programs, consumers easily get overwhelmed and need help in deciding which one is for them. In this review, we will take a look at this book and find out if it has anything innovative or unique to offer that would benefit dieters.

Concept

In all his books, Gary Null does not deviate from the tried and true weight loss concepts. What he does with every outing is to embellish and update but the basic ideas remain constant. His approach includes fasting for detoxification and eating a vegetarian diet. The latter consists of organic fruits, vegetables, grains and pure spring drinking water. Sugar and excessive gluten are to be avoided, if not completely eliminated.

Design

Unlike his other books which are more focused on a particular topic, this one is more like a source book or an encyclopedia of diets and different healing methods. It features a collection of diets designed to address different ailments. A high fiber diet for example, is said to encourage better colon health. Null also includes dietary suggestions to address various illnesses such as eating disorders, depression, arthritis, TMJ, pain management, insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, among others.

Some readers may find this book of over a thousand pages somewhat overwhelming. Almost 200 pages are devoted to information about practitioners of different alternative therapies such as mind/body relaxation techniques, Rolfing, the Alexander technique, cranial balancing, “herbalism”, detoxification to name a few. These unorthodox therapies are believed to improve health, promote weight loss and enhance anti-aging abilities.

Lifestyle

We appreciate that Null also stresses the need for regular physical activity. As mentioned, the author sticks to the basic concepts of weight loss. Exercise has always been one of the healthiest ways to lose weight and achieve good health. The great thing about it is that a little exercise, such as an evening walk, can already do wonders. Null also provides readers with delicious recipes which they need to help them meet their dietary goals. However, we noticed that in some testimonies, people expressed difficulty in following the recipes. This kind of feedback speaks a lot about the “do-ablity” of a certain plan.

Positives

• Readers are provided with a large amount of data
• Includes a list of alternative health care providers

Negatives

• Some negative testimonials posted
• No research which supports claims posted
• Not a uniform weight loss plan

Final Thoughts

This book would be a good general resource material on diet, nutrition and exercise with a large amount of data included about a wide range of related topics including illnesses and alternative healing. It is not the type of book that would provide individuals with step-by-step instructions of a specific weight loss dietary plan.

4 Diet Plans that can Help You Lose 10 or More Pounds Fast

July 25th, 2009

Diets, Diets, Diets! It seems that’s all we can think about when we need to lose weight! Every time we turn on the TV or look at a magazine it seems there is a brand new one staring us in the face! It can be hard enough living with yourself when you are overweight, much less trying to wade through the mass of information concerning all the diets and weight loss products on the market and trying to choose one to try.

One of the most important things to remember when going on a diet is to pick one that, while effective, is still HEALTHY. You don’t want to compromise your health just to lose a few pounds. Here are 4 diet plans that been shown to have a good combination of being effective AND healthy:

High Protein Diet

In the world of food, protein means Animals. Yes, there ARE some other foods that contain protein, but animals are the biggie. Lean beef, fish, and turkey make up the bulk of this diet. A high Protein diet can be an effective weight loss tool in that protein has the ability to make you feel fuller for longer periods of time. In addition, it contains only 4 calories per gram versus fat which contains 9, and while carbohydrates contain the same as protein, they do not make us feel satiated like proteins. The ratios of Proteins to Fats and Carbohydrates vary with different diets so be sure to investigate several before you take the plunge.

Low Carb Diet

Eating few or NO carbs has become much more popular with diets such as the Atkins Program. With this diet, you lower your carb intake to almost zero. This puts your body into a state called KETOSIS which means your body is now using fats as its primary fuel source versus carbohydrates. You basically eat nothing but Fast and Proteins. This diet is a bit controversial because of its high Fat content, but many studies have proven it safe as even though you are eating a lot of fat, your body is burning it for fuel thus not allowing it to cause harm.

High Fiber Diet

Fiber is an interesting ingredient found in fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes, and whole wheat breads and pastas. It acts as nature’s ROTO ROOTER and basically allows harmful toxins to cling to it and is then removed from the body rather than being digested. (some soluble fiber IS digested, but insoluble is passed right through) High fiber foods make us feel full longer, and slow the process of digestion which allows more nutrients to be absorbed. More nutrients mean your body can perform optimally while the slower digestion means you won’t be hungry for some time.

Juice Diets

One type of diet that has been around for awhile but is making a comeback as of late is the Juice Diet. You basically drink a certain type of juice everyday for a specified period of time, and that is IT. This diet can be hard to stick with as you won’t eat any real food, but it can detox and cleanse your body ridding it of unwanted waste and built up fecal matter causing significant weight loss in some cases.

No matter which diet you choose, make sure to do your research as varying degrees of ingredients and time limits make up each diet. If in doubt, visit your doctor before undertaking any radical altering of your food intake.
