There are hundreds of different diets out there, so it is important to be able to find the good diets that work so that you don’t waste time over those that don’t. It is important to realize right from the start what your aim is. Presumably you are wanting to lose body fat so that not only do you look better, but you will feel better, and more importantly your health will be better.
To make all this work for you, you need a diet that not only reduces the number of calories you eat each and every day, but one that has all the required nutrients that your body needs to keep it healthy, or get it healthy if your diet recently has been rather doubtful! The calorie reduction diets work because they limit the quantity of food that you eat each day, but these diets may not have the correct number of calories for your particular lifestyle. As everyone has different activity levels, and different metabolisms, what will work well for one person will not necessarily lead to a weight loss in another. This means that you have to discover how many calories you eat in a typical day now, and then reduce it if you want to lose weight, but see you doctor first before starting any diet plan, or before exercising.
In all probability, you already know which foods you should be eating, and what you should not be diving into. Fruits and vegetables are good for you, and you should have the recommended amounts each day. Reducing weight doesn’t mean eliminating any of the food groups, you still need carbohydrates, proteins and fats, of the right type each and every day for a healthy body. You probably do not need to eat as much protein as you have been doing, and it should be low fat protein, with fish 2 – 4 times a week, if you can tolerate it. Herring, mackerel and salmon are good fish to eat, as they contain the kind of omega 3s that your body needs. Fat from animals, like butter, or lard should be reduced, as well as the fat from meat which is best removed before cooking. if possible.
It is not good to be hungry all the time, even though you do have to reduce what you eat, as that hunger will have you back to your old ways of eating in no time at all. For example, if you are using the 1500 calorie diet, and you are spending all day hungry, and thinking about food, then you will not be able to continue this for long before you cave in, and toss that diet away.
However, maybe you should consider how and when you eat. Think about eating 5 or 6 times a day, instead of just 3, so that you spread your food intake more evenly over the whole time you are awake. You obviously won’t eat as much at each meal, otherwise you will gain weight, not lose weight, but by eating smaller portions, but more frequently, it actually helps you to lose weight, because your blood sugar levels will not vary as dramatically as when you eat less often. Also, your stomach will be able to digest and process the smaller meals more easily and more efficiently, so that the food will provide you with energy more easily too. Since your blood sugar will not be spiking as much, because you’ll be eating the healthier carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables, rather than refined sugars and flour products, you will not feel as hungry. This means that provided you have set your diet at a suitable number of calories for you, then you will start to lose weight and that body fat.
Now of course, exercise is important – did you really think we would talk about a diet and not mention exercise? – whether we are on a calorie restricted diet, or not. To maintain good health, your body needs to exercise regularly so that it’s muscles, tendons and bones are kept in good condition. Muscle use also burns more calories, so it will help you with your goal to lose those pounds. A good brisk walk 4 or 5 times a week will help you to get fitter, and of course there are numerous exercises that you can perform either at home or in a gym, with or without specialized exercise equipment. For some people, having equipment at home that they can use at any time is a good idea, but for others, it can be an expense that leads to a great deal of guilt when that expensive equipment gets pushed in a corner unused.
Too much stress is a bad thing to have in your life, as it can easily lead to bad eating decisions. On the other hand, exercising can help you reduce your stress level, and so too can sleep. Right now we are a society that packs way too much into one day, and the result is that we do not have enough rest or sleep. This in its turn leads to more stress as things do not go as well as expected due to exhaustion, and comfort food may be used to try to overcome the stress. If you sleep more, you will be awake less, and you will have less time to eat, another bonus to help you lose weight.
There are various other diets around, like the juice diet, or juice fasting, as well as the reduced calorie diets, but whichever diet you choose use make sure that you are getting all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to be healthy. Diet analysis on the foods that you eat can tell you whether or not your body is getting all the nutrients that it needs for a healthy body.
